On the 7th September the Ballarat Branch of the National Trust hosted a walking tour of Inter War Housing with particular emphasis on the works of HL Corburn. This was undertaken as part of the Regional Art Deco Festival. To our delight, we had more than 60 people arrive for the walking tour held on a pleasant spring Sunday afternoon.
After the walking tour we held an afternoon tea in the Old Post Office Gallery that is part of the Arts Precinct of the University of Ballarat. At the afternoon tea, we had a series of original water colour plans and building elevations done by HL Coburn as well as a slide show of more than 100 Art Deco buildings around Ballarat. This included commercial, industrial and domestic buildings.
A huge amount of research was done on the 32 homes we looked at on the tour and currently we are hoping that this might be the beginning of a larger research project, as there are currently snippets of information appearing from numerous sources.
