Polly Woodside Tall Ship 1885 in Melbourne

Polly Woodside offers students an experience of maritime life, history and culture aboard a real tall ship.

Polly Woodside is a 19thC tall ship built in Belfast in 1885 and worked as a cargo vessel transporting coal, wheat and timber across the globe.

New programs for primary levels 1 to 6 give students a hands-on crew role under the direction of the First mate Students undertake basic activities like scrubbing the decks, manning the capstan and hauling ropes. They learn principles of sailing, maritime culture, navigation, social history and transport.

Old Melbourne Gaol, Court Room Drama & City Watch House - Melbourne

The Old Melbourne Gaol Crime and Justice Experience is Australia's leading heritage attraction and has interactive programs for students from Year 5 through to VCE, ESL and tertiary groups.

Students can experience the legal process from arrest to incarceration.

This includes Court Room Dramas, the City Watch House and Old Melbourne Gaol Tours. We have also newly launched the Kelly Quest as a complete day excursion across 3 venues in Melbourne's CBD.

Rippon Lea House & Garden - Elsternwick

Go back in time and experience a real day in the distant past first- hand. Our friendly staff are here to help.

Students can learn about Then and Now by going back in time in a "real" Time Machine, learn about the Sargood family, work as a servant in the kitchens and follow a Creature Catcher trail through the heritage gardens.

The full day program includes hands-on activities in the kitchens and laundry and old fashioned games and sports.

Mrs Sargood teaches at your school!

As a mother of a family of ten children, distinguished society matron and home school teacher Mrs Sargood is a real character from Rippon Lea's past.

This is an exciting new program designed to give students an authentic experience of the 19th Century Australian school classroom. A professional National Trust education facilitator, Georgina Wade, plays the role of Marian Australia Sargood.

If you cannot organise an excursion to Rippon Lea this is an ideal option or as a post Rippon Lea excursion activity.

History in a Box Handling Kit

This handling kit includes antiques, photographs, games, toys and objects from the 19th Century for students can use and explore in their own classroom at their own pace.

The 48 page Teacher Notes includes instructions on how to frame many class activities based on examination of the 19th Century from photography activities to cooking to schoolroom activities.

VCE Geography at Rippon Lea

Rippon Lea is an ideal location for VCE students to complete the National Trust's fieldwork exercise kit for VCE Geography Unit 3.

Students can explore the house and gardens undertaking geographic investigations using the kit under the direction of their teacher, practicing key fieldwork skills and then apply and process the data to address thecourse requirements.

Social, historical, environmental, economic, physical, political and technological factors are all important elements that students will be able to identify during their visit. The key concepts of location, scale, distance, distribution, region, movement, spatial interaction and change can also be applied.

Find out about Georgian McCrae, her family and the Burrell family who lived at McCrae homestead on the Mornington Peninsular.
