BELEURA JOINS NATIONAL TRUST FAMILY

Governor David de Kretser Patron of The National Trust of Victoria, and Mrs Jan de Kretser, on behalf of Dr Graeme Blackman Chairman and the Board of the National Trust, acknowledged the latest property to sign an association with the National Trust, in a ceremony at Beleura House, Mornington on Monday 2nd April 2007, hosted by Anthony Knight of the Tallis Foundation.
Purchased by Sir George Tallis, KCB, theatrical entrepreneur, gentleman farmer and pastoralist and Amelia, Lady Tallis actress, doyen of Melbourne society and charity worker, Beleura was used as the family’s seaside house (1916 - 1950). Sir George passed away and in 1950, by family agreement, Beleura was acquired by the youngest son John Tallis, gentleman composer of music, musician, historian and gardener. John Tallis passed away in 1996 and bequeathed Beleura and its contents to the people of Victoria in 1996.
Roger Gilchrist Chairman of the Tallis foundation which now manages Beleura co-signed the agreement, which will see closer association between the two organisations, infront of 150 invited guests.
Trust CEO Martin Purslow confirmed that, 'we are absolutely delighted that such a marvellous property as Beleura will now be formally associated with the National Trust in Victoria. The Tallis foundation have worked miracles at this wonderful property. They have shown how an imaginative approach to conserving and making our heritage accessible can bring great benefits to an area. We can learn a great deal from our association that will benefit both organisations into the future.'
