Melbourne’s history is as diverse as it is colourful. Discover the city by foot with a National Trust qualified guide. Choose from four walks that uncover Melbourne’s great landmarks, introduce hidden treasures, tell fascinating stories and give an overview of the city and its development.

MARVELLOUS MELBOURNE: Discover one of Melbourne’s best-known thoroughfares and a number of grand buildings from the Marvellous Melbourne boom period of the 1880s. Among the treasures on this walk, admire the surviving elegant town houses and professional rooms.

MERCANTILE MELBOURNE: Melbourne’s western end was the first CBD! Among the buildings on this tour discover early warehouses still in the main streets; a popular hotel from the 1860s side by side with a former 1884-5 townhouse owned by Australia’s only baronet.

TRADITIONAL MELBOURNE: Melbourne’s grandest buildings are to be found at the eastern end of the city. Buildings on this walk include Parliament House, the majestic Windsor Hotel and St Patrick’s Cathedral.

COMMERCIAL MELBOURNE: ‘Do The Block‘ just as fashionable Melburnians did on Saturday afternoons in the 1880s. Discover Melbourne’s own Chinatown and bustling department stores at the commercial heart of the city

Duration: Each walk is two hours and includes Morning or Afternoon Tea.
Bookings: Advance bookings are essential. Walks operate on a booked basis for two or more. All tours led by National Trust qualified guides. Groups welcome. Special tours tailored for special interest and school groups.
