History:Lake View is significant for its association with the distinguished Australian author Henry Handel Richardson (pseudonym for Ethel Richardson). Her early years in Chiltern featured in the classic novel, 'The Fortunes of Richard Mahony'. The charming red brick house is furnished in period style and contains a small collection of Richardson memorabilia. The 3 January birthday of HHR is marked each year with a picnic tea at Lake View.
