Statement of Cultural Heritage Significance:
CITATION The Church of St John the Evangelist, East Malvern is of Local architectural significance as the design of Purchas & Teague (and possibly Robert Haddon). It is a late, though fully realised, example of the English Decorated Gothic style. This is the third church of the Parish on the same site and its construction in Barrabool stone illustrates the persisience and growth of the aspirations of the congregation. Internally, its crossing is most generous and elegant in proportion, and its stained glass and pipe-organ are noteworthy. The church shows a remarkable continuity with the previous church (1889) on the site, in terms of re-use of material, relocation of furniture and fittings, and style elements. It is located in, and forms an integral part of the Gasciogne Conservation Area. The church, with the hall and the vicarage, forms part of an intact, pre-War group of three parish buildings.
