Statement of Cultural Heritage Significance:

Statement of Significance Church Statement of Significance: A church begun in 1862 to the design of Charles Barrett, but which has been heterogeneously extended over time, and is now of greater interest for elements like the Albert Memorial window of 1864, and for the fine reredos, carved by William Howitt to the design of Laver & Fick.Church Classified 15.4.76 Upgraded 9.3.89. Revised: Classified Local 3/8/98 Public Art Statement of Significance: This is one of a group of three works of stained glass which represent the most striking works of Victoria's nineteenth century firm of glass workers, Ferguson & Urie, and is significant at State level. The Four Evangelists is a major work by Melbourne's earliest leading stained glass firm, created at the peak of its production in the 1870s. One of a number of distinctive works in local colonial stained glass that competed with the overseas imports which were gradually to corner the market for more lavish cycles.Public Art Stained Glass classified State 15/7/92
