Statement of Cultural Heritage Significance:
CITATION Church Statement of Significance: This distinctive bluestone church comprising clerestoried nave, aisles and apsidal chancel with panelled wooden roof, was designed by C H E Blachmann and opened in 1874. The fine interior is of interest for its foliated column capitals, stained glass by Ferguson & Urie, cedar and blackwood furnishings, and organ by Robert Mackinzie divided on the west gallery under an arrangement of tripartite gables. Services were and still are conducted in German. First Classified 9/7/1970 Confirmed 18/5/89 Revised: Classified State 3/8/98 Organ Statement of Significance: One of the few surviving instruments built by Robert Mackenzie who arrived in Melbourne in 1872 to erect the original Melbourne Town Hall organ. While rebuilt on two occasions with new action and console, the instrument retains its original pipework and unique tripartite Gothic case, probably designed by Charles Blachmann, the architect of the church.
